The Advanced Engineered Materials-AEM Laboratory in Woodstock, Georgia, USA, recently introduced a new TiB2 (titanium diboride) ceramic tool material under the tradename Advanced TiB2. This material has a microhardness of 3400. It can be used for milling and turning of black and non-ferrous metals, hardened steels and superalloys. It lasts 5 to 6 times longer than existing carbide tools and costs only 2 ~ 3 times. TiB 2 ceramic materials have been available for a long time.
