The Precision Components Division at Northrop Grumman is currently developing two new laser gyros that will use these small strapdown inertial devices for tactical missiles and are studying the use of ballistic missile defense. The company’s goal is to design High-volume production, and ultimately low-cost laser gyros. These two laser gyros are: ring laser gyroscope it does not use high-frequency vibration motor to produce laser phase shift, instead of using pure optical method.In the past there are other companies have studied pure Optical ring laser gyro, but the device developed by Northrop is small in size and cost-effective.
