  Over the past 90 years since its inception in 1921 the CPC andthe Chinese people have been through many historic moments,including bringing down the old warlords, resisting the Japa-nese invasion, ending the civil war, building and consolidatingnew political power and launching the reform and opening-uppolicy which fueled China's socio-economic development. Dif-ferent generations had in their rankspatriotic and ambitious Chinese peoplewho sought membership in the Party,who manned the mission to bring Chinaindependence, peace, stability, pros-perity and harmony. Membership hasexpanded from a band of fewer than lOOto the tens of millions enrolled today.According to statistics from the Organi-zation Department of the CPC CentralCommittee, the Party had 77.995 millionmembers by the end of 2o09 and 23,7percent of them are under 35 years ofage.
