This article reports the first discovery of bovine schistosome eggs in human excrement in Kenya. Cattle schistosome infections are common in cattle in Kenya, and cercaria larvae are often found in the water of locals. Although there have been reports of human infection of bovine schistosomes in Uganda, Zimbabwe and South Africa, they have not been found in Kenya. The authors observed the prevalence of Schistosoma mansoni, called Mwea, about 100 kilometers southeast of Nairobi. The Kenyan Medical Institute has a locally controlled research project on schistosomiasis.
