Objective To explore the preventive effect of wild compound Gynostemma pentaphyllum on hepatic fibrosis in rabbits fed high cholesterol diet. Methods Experimental rabbits were divided into group A (grass food), group B (high cholesterol diet + wild Gynostemma Compound), group C (high cholesterol diet + simvastatin), and group D (high cholesterol diet) 4 groups. Changes in hyaluronic acid (HA), laminin (LN), procollagen III (PCIII), lipids, and liver function were compared between the groups before and after feeding and in the rearing groups. Results After feeding for 4 months, the HA in group B was (13 0 1± 8 2) ng/ml, LN was (15 4 2± 14 1) ng/ml, and PC III was (24 4± 7 1) ng/ml. There was a significant difference compared with before feeding (P < 0.05); HA in the C group was (2 40 2 ± 14 1) ng/ml, LN was (2 69 7 ± 2 8 8) ng/ml, and PC III was ( 4 0 1± 8 4) ng/ml was significantly different from that before feeding (P < 0 01); each index in the C group was higher than that of the B group, and there was a significant difference between the two groups (P <0 0 5). After feeding, cholesterol in group B and group C increased, compared with that before feeding, the difference was significant (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in cholesterol between group B and group C (P > 0.05); cholesterol in group D increased Compared with before feeding, the difference was very significant (P < 0 0 01). The increase of triglyceride in group B was significantly different from that before feeding (P < 0.05). The increase of triglyceride in group C was significant compared with that before feeding (P <0 01). The level of trilipid was higher than that of group B, and the difference was significant (P < 0.05). The triglycerides in group D increased significantly compared with that before feeding (P <0 01).
