原子能的发现和应用是科学技术史上最重大的事件之一.把原子能用于发电或舰船推进通称核动力.从本世纪五十年代中期民用核动力开始以工业规模应用以来,二十多年时间内世界各国核电站的装机总容量到一九七八年底已经超过1.2亿千瓦,占各种电站总容量的6%强.目前核电站的发电成本已大幅度地低于常规电站,核动力取得了巨大进展,成了各国电力工业的主要发展方向.虽然,近年来核动力的发展受到了政治、经济、社会等一些因素的不利影响,但是核动力本身具备的重大优点并没有因这些影响而改变.正是这些优点使它成为最近一段时间内必需的、无可代替的能源.核动力必将会得到更大的发展.我国发展核动力会更有力地促进我国的四化建设.
