民间宗教,无疑是“底层文化系统中的一环”。正因为是底层文化,故常常被精英文化人忽略甚至不屑。然而读《中国民间宗教史》(以下简称《民间》),你绝感觉不到深藏在文化人骨子里的清傲,那里充溢着作者对底层文化以及“引车卖浆者流”深深的“理解的同情”。《民间》之所以是一部成功的学术著作,我们认为,重要的是作者将视野转向了民间,将脚步迈向了民间,从而获得了创作的巨大的情感之源。在这部书的开头几页,作者就发出了低缓、不平、愤懑、为底层文化和下层民众求公正的声音:“构成中华民族主体的是底层社会,是下层民众,他们虽然数千年被压在金字塔的下层,终生贫困,而且得不到文化的布施,在帝王将相、神仙佛
