This article attempts to explore the phenomenon of grammatical metaphor in medieval English scientific discourse and finds that the “scientific science” of nominalization in the theoretical explanation of grammar plays the role of generalizing the precedent material process, making the main theme or new information of small sentences. Nominalization and verbalization form external causal clauses. Nominalization makes the material process an entity in the “On the Treatment of Anal Fistula, Hemorrhoids and Enema”, which describes the mixed genre of the report and the process narrative, but nominalization has a limited effect on technical construction. The research shows that Halliday believed that the grammatical metaphors that appeared in the early 17th century scientific texts of modern English science can be traced back to the Middle English period from the late 14th century to the early 15th century.
