Recently, the arguments raised by Gang and Jing have been published in Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine,(1) concerning the randomized controlled trial (RCT) of our team published in JAMA.(2) The conclusions of Gang and Jing(1) result not only from misunderstanding of the aims of our study,(2) but also a lack of basic knowledge for the design of RCT and the limitations on the content, and hence the length, of the primary outcome article in high-impact journals (i.e. 2,500 words and a total of 5 figures/tables in JAMA). We will address their main critiques point by point below.
