三基色原理为彩色墨水喷射记录奠定了基础。在白纸上进行彩色印刷,用印刷三基色:黄、品红、青,通过减法混色,即可配出各种不同的颜色。使用调色剂的静电式彩色复写机,用印刷三基色还可以表现出黑色来。而在墨水喷射的场合,要实现彩色印刷需使用四种颜色,即印刷三基色加上黑色。这是因为,采用印刷用三基色润和配色等方法,是配不出真正的黑色来的,它相当于彩色印刷当中的墨版。如图1所示,印版三基色和光的三基色品红、绿、青之间存在补色关系,由三基色承担浓淡的层次性,通过混色就可以配出各种不同的颜色。
