费穆(1906—1951),字敬庐,号辑止,原籍苏州,生于上海,1916年全家迁居北京;小学毕业后,进法文高等学堂学习。由于爱好电影,约在二十年代末考入华北电影公司,担任翻译英文字幕和编写说明书的工作。1932年费穆到上海,加入联华影业公司一厂,开始电影编导工作。 在联华的导演中,费穆有三多:看书多,看事多,看影戏多。好学深思,喜欢独立思考。从思想上看,他是个民主主义者,虽然对不合理的社会制度不满,同情被压迫的劳动群众,却又不完全赞同左翼文艺工作者的社会政治观点。他认为电影应当担负起“文化的任务”,反映“真实的社会现象”,同时必须重视形式的创造。他曾说:“有了新的内容,一定要有新
