旧上海,马路上行驶的摩托车都是洋货,如美国的“哈利”、英国的“大炮”和“爱雷”等,唯独没有中国的摩托车。1958年,在党的“商业办工业”号召下,上海市石油公司和上海市综合联社同时选中了这个“缺门”,开始仿制摩托车。上海市石油公司以本公司油库的机修车间为场地,仿制英国的“大炮”牌300毫升单缸四冲程摩托车,取名为“海燕”牌350型,上海市综合联社以卢湾区摩托车修理合作社为场地,仿制英国的“爱雷”
