Objective To understand the epidemic situation of soil-borne nematodes in Jinhu County, to grasp the epidemic rules and its influencing factors, and to provide basis for scientifically formulating prevention and control strategies and measures. Methods According to the historical prevalence and river basin, the terrain features two stratified clusters randomly sampled. Two villages were surveyed each year. In each village, 500 residents were surveyed over the age of 2, including less than 1/3 of children under 14 years of age. A modified Kato-smear method (Kato-Katz method) 1 sent 3 seizures, statistical infection rates, infection rates and infectivity of single worms. Results A total of 3 101 people were surveyed in 3 towns and 6 villages. Twenty-two soil-borne nematodes were found, with a total infection rate of 0.71%. The infection rates of roundworm, hookworm and whipworm were 0.13%, 0.48% and 0.10%, respectively. There were significant differences in the infection rates of each species (P <0.01); all were mild infections with no moderate or severe infection. There was no significant difference in infection rate between male and female (0.56% vs 0.84%) (P> 0.05). The infection rate of female hookworm was significantly higher than that of male (0.72% vs 0.21%) (P <0.05). There was no significant difference in the infection rates of soil-borne nematodes in age, occupation and educational level (all P> 0.05). Conclusion The harm of soil-borne nematodes to human body in Jinhu County has basically been eliminated. Monitoring and prevention and treatment of key populations should be continued in the future.
