First, the geographical distribution of cotton production in the United States United States cotton is mainly planted in four geographical regions: the southeast cotton area, the Central South cotton area, the southwest cotton area and the far west cotton area. The southeastern cotton area includes the states of Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Cotton production in the cotton area accounts for 5% of the national output, of which about 10% of the cotton fields need irrigation.
