党的十六届五中全会明确要求,要推进社会主义和谐社会建设。我军是党绝对领导下的人民军队,在构建和谐社会的进程中肩负着义不容辞的历史责任。军队在构建和谐社会中的特殊功能主要表现为政治上的重要保障功能、经济上的重要推动功能和文化上的重要示范功能。
The Fifth Plenary Session of the 16th CPC Central Committee explicitly required that we should promote the building of a harmonious socialist society. Our army is a people’s army under the absolute leadership of the party and shoulders an unshirkable historical responsibility in the process of building a harmonious society. The special functions of the army in building a harmonious society are mainly manifested as an important political guarantee function, an important economic promotion function and a culturally important demonstration function.
