地处沂蒙山区的平邑县,地质构造复杂,地貌类型多样,盛产多种石材,号称石都。最近,该县奇石协会发现了新石种,经专家鉴定,初步定名“平邑彩霞石”,为中国观赏石大家族增加了一个新成员。平邑县彩霞石主产于该县中南部的长山、牛山、天宝山、四海山等沉积岩山区,为寒武纪地层泥质岩,硬度5度左右。该石多为片状,大小厚薄不一,
