He’s a really nice guy.
Unlike most cute teen idols, who take the news that young girls find them attractive as a license to behave like jerks[蠢人], Zac Efron has a refreshing[爽朗的] honesty and a disarming[使消除警戒的] modesty[谦逊] that put him quite ahead of most of his competitors.
“I could show you 500 kids in L.A., who are my height, weight, hair colour and age - we’re a dime a dozen[很普通的]. Why did I get the parts I did? Who knows? But the minute I start thinking it’s because I was special, that’s
when I know I’m in trouble.”
Efron didn’t begin in a show business family - far from it.
“I lived a normal childhood in a middle-class family. When I was younger, I didn’t even know this business existed.”
It was Efron’s dad who first sensed his son’s
talent in the acting world and encouraged him to do school musicals like many other kids. For a while, it was like any normal scenario[脚本] where the talented son impresses family and friends with his accomplishments. But later on, some of the professional started noticing the nice young man. High-powered agents swept in to make the California kid a worldwide star.
Though the successful comedy Hairspray (2007) put Efron in the public eye as its appealing[吸引人的] romantic lead, there’s no doubt that his early performance as Troy Bolton in the phenomenon[轰动] known as High School Musical made him a giant star to begin with.
“We made the movie with low expectations,” he now admits. “And, initially[起初], there was no phenomenon. But then, suddenly, pandemonium[喧嚣] broke loose and there we were, on all kinds of American programmes.”
Today, High School Musical
2 has turned out to be one of the hottest sequels[续集] that came out this summer.
“It’s a blast[爆炸]!” says Efron. “If that one was Grease, then this one is Dirty Dancing.”
Right now, Efron admits,
“I’m one lucky guy to have landed in such awesome projects.”
But he’s also happy about the success of the High School Musical series and Hairspray for another reason, “They tell kids that what’s really important in life is following your dreams and truly being yourself.”
Efron flashes his million-dollar注 smile.
“Hey, if it happened to me, then, man, it can happen to anybody.”
