NAD (P) H oxidase activity was measured on the plasma membrane of Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer suspension cells. This type of NAD (P) H oxidase activity can be induced by the Cleavedaria gambiense cell wall elicitor (Cle). Cle treatment also induced oxygen evolution in the ginseng suspension cells, promoted the saponin synthesis of the ginseng suspension cells, increased the activity of phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL), and induced the accumulation of chalcone synthase (CHS) and the cell wall up-resistance Expression of Sex-related Protein Gene Hydroxyprolin-rich Glycoproleins. Cleave-induced H2O2 release was associated with Cle activation after pretreatment of ginseng suspension cells with Diphenylene iodonium (DPI) and quinacrine for 30 min using mammalian leukocyte plasma membrane-specific NADPH oxidase inhibitors Of plasma membrane NAD (P) H oxidase activity was inhibited, while Cle induced PAL activity and the accumulation of CHS decreased saponin synthesis and hrgp expression was inhibited.
