Indomethacin is sparingly soluble in water and its aqueous solution is hydrolyzed to 5-methoxy-2-methyl-indole-3-acetic acid and p-chlorobenzoic acid on the basis of pH and the former is further decomposed into 5-methoxy-2,3 - dimethylindole.
