The authors collected 34 occipital hair and 24-hour urine samples from 34 male tannery workers and 12 normal adults under controlled pollution conditions. Twenty-eight workers were directly involved in tannery chrome work, and the remaining 16 were control group, working for 1 month to 30 years. All subjects, in addition to clinical examination and routine urine tests, also determined chromium concentrations by flameless atomic absorption spectrometry and urine β 2 -microglobulin measured by radioimmunoassay.
