This article describes a data compression method, including the results of the corresponding test. This method is applied to grid data of hierarchical structure, and the method applies the second-level difference standard in each stage. The article outlines several different scenarios. Test with a Gestalt DTM in a mountainous terrain and using a one-dimensional operator. Apply different thresholds to the second-order difference and estimate the corresponding loss of accuracy and compression ratio. By adjusting the threshold, two quality indices can be adjusted. The effectiveness of this method depends mainly on the topography of the ups and downs and the size of the threshold.
