薛凤祚对《崇祯历书》的知识内容进行了选要和重构。把选要的基调定位在“择切用者”的切用性上,并对历法概念做了狭义解读,这种观念势必会影响和渗透到他对《崇祯历书》的选要和重构中。他在把握原文的基础上,对原文内容进行了整理、删节、概括、改写、重排等重构,并呈现出“以求代论”的重构倾向;这一方面是对原文意蕴的一种遮蔽,另一方面是他“重计算、轻理论”的暴露。这是其“历学的本源在于算数”之观念的具体反映;也是其对《崇祯历书》选要“切用性”特征的体现;也有极少数选文含蓄地强调了与传统文化协同,存在着为了和传统文化的协同而含蓄对原文变异的现象,这种倾向的根源是:薛凤祚坚守把占验作为历法主要功能之一的传统观念。
