According to The Lancet, 1995, Vol. 345, No. 8942, genetic defects of the immune system-specific components provide many clues to understanding the immune mechanisms against bacterial infections. The authors report familial immunodeficiency in children that is susceptible to the spread of atypical mycobacteria. Six children identified an unrecognized immunodeficiency pattern. The signs are fever, weight loss, lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly, and have anemia and acute phase reactions.
