榆林驿是北京地区现存规模最大的古驿站和古军事城堡。它既是北京邮驿文化源远流长的历史见证和重要载体,又是研究北京邮驿史、北京军事史和北京交通史等方面的重要证据和实物资料,具有极高的历史价值、文化价值和科学价值,也是发展北京旅游产业的宝贵资源之一。1998年被公布为延庆县重点文物保护单位,2003年被公布为北京市历史文化保护街区。
