Objective To investigate the effect and mechanism of UV-irradiated pigskin on burn wound coverage. Methods Sixty-two patients with deep second degree burn were enrolled in the study. They were randomly divided into control group (n = 30) and experimental group (n = 32). In the experimental group, pigs covered with pigs’ skin were pre-irradiated with 40W UV light for 2h. Irradiation was performed to observe the time of burn wound covered by pig skin and wound healing effect in each group. Results The survival time of pigskin in the control group was (16.2 ± 3.2) days and (21.6 ± 2.7) days in the experimental group, respectively. The healing rate of type Ⅰ in burn wounds in the experimental group was higher than that in the control group. There was significant difference between the two groups. Conclusion The pre-irradiation of pigskin for burns wound coverage can significantly prolong the wound protection time and accelerate wound healing.
