猫等动物延髓腹侧浅层左右对称地存在三个局限区域,其前(M区)、后L_2区)两区含有H~+敏感细胞,局部细胞间质H~+浓度变化是其生理性刺激物;中间的S区是M区和L_2区传入冲动投射至脑干呼吸中枢的中继站。在它们的突触传递环节中有胆硷能性机制参与。目前认为延髓中枢化学感受器是体内感受CO_2分压、H~+浓度的瞬时变化,维持和驱动呼吸运动,使之适应机体代谢水平的最重要结构。
