在滚齿机上滚切蜗轮一般都习惯用径向进刀法,但是当蜗轮螺旋角较大(例如大于6°)时,若用径向进刀法,就会把传动部分的有用牙齿滚切去很多,减少有效接触面积,降低表面光洁度,和产生小平面等毛病。为了克服这个缺点,通常采用轴向进刀法。这种方法跟径向进刀法的不同点是:蜗轮在滚切前,先把工作台调整到滚切全深的位置;滚切过程中工作台位置固定不再移动,而滚刀沿着本身的轴线移动,对蜗轮作切线方向的进刀(如图1所示)。由于这种滚切方法的效果良好,因此,小螺旋角的蜗轮有时也采用这种
