Helicobacter pylori (Hp) is an important factor in gastritis and ulcer disease. The toxins that they produce activate the macrophages in the gastric mucosa and release large amounts of oxygen free radicals (OFRs) that cause gastric mucosal damage. The authors have reported [1]. From October 1996 to December 1997, we measured OF of gastric mucosa of Hp (+) ulcer patients before and after anti-Hp treatment.
