玛格丽特·埃德森的戏剧《睿智》是1999年普利策获奖作品。该剧讲述了大学教授维维安在患癌症之后所经历的自我救赎过程。作者通过对边缘人物维维安悲剧命运的刻画和关注,表达了深切的人文关怀。本文从女性在男权社会被边缘化、主人公成为身心疲惫的患者以及情感枯竭的“死者”这三个方面深入地分析主人公维维安成为牺牲品的悲剧必然性。为情感枯竭的社会敲醒警钟,也给予我们寻回淳朴与真爱的启示。
Margaret Edson’s play “Wisdom” is the 1999 Pulitzer prize-winning work. The play tells the process of self-salvation experienced by university professor Vivian in the wake of cancer. The author expresses profound humanistic concern through depicting and paying attention to the tragic fate of the marginalized Vivian. This article analyzes the inevitability of the tragedy of the protagonist Vivian being the victim from the following three aspects: the marginalization of the patriarchal society by the female, the patient who became the body and mind as well as the exhausted “dead person”. The wake-up call for the emotionally exhausted society also gives us an enlightenment of finding simplicity and true love.
