Although NASA laser rockets have a more appropriate investment (this year is 250,000 US dollars), but still the first flight scheduled for 2004. In a laser engine-propelled rocket scheme, a significant amount of laser power (typically many megawatts) is delivered from the generating station to the rocket via the laser beam. Laser power at the rocket heats a working fluid that expands through the nozzle to propel the rocket forward. Because laser rockets are powered by remote power units, they offer a significant reduction in quality over the use of conventional chemical-fuel-powered rockets.
