Les Miserables and Earl of Monte Cristo, respectively, were masterpieces of Hugo and Dumas, the great writers of the 19th century in France. Their profound ideological content and superb creative techniques have made them occupy a very important position in the history of world literature. These two works are more comparable. The storyline of the two are similar, and the experiences of the two protagonists Edmond Donets and Jean Agen in the first half of the life can all be summed up as the pattern of “grievance, sinking, redemption” It is a reproduction of U-shaped prototypes of biblical literature. The difference is that the life choices made after the reversal of their destiny are quite different. But in the end, the two ends are the same, glorifying the glorious humanitarianism in forgiveness and becoming the messengers of God.
