素质与素质教育有着密切的联系。人的素质的提高离不开教育。有什么样的素质,就应有与之相对应的素质教育。人的素质可大致分为生理素质、心理素质和社会文化素质,与之相对应,则有生理素质、心理素质和社会文化素质教育。若详细划分,人的素质可分为思想道德素质教育、文化科学素质、身体素质、心理素质、审美素质和劳动技能素质等,与此相对应,则有思想道德素质、文化科学素质教育、身体素质教育、心理素质教育、审美素质教育和劳动技能素质教育等。素质具有整体性。人的诸方面素质不是孤立存在的,而是互相制约、相互依存的整体。素质教育必须遵循人的素质整体结构的规律,从人的整体素质结构出发,使素质教育与人的素质结构相适应,养成人的整体素质。现代素质教育不仅深入到素质的生理与心理层面,而且扩展到社会文化层面。素质是个体性、群体性和民族性的统一。这就要求既重视个体的各种素质的教育,又重视群体素质的完善,还要致力于全民族整体的提高。
