During the COVID-19 outbreak, the central Chinese province of Hubei has become the core area for epidemic prevention and control. After analyzing the overall situation, human resource reserves and shortages of medical resources in various cities of the province, on February 7, the National Health Commission of China coordinated and arranged 19 provinciallevel regions in China to respectively provide support to 16 cities and prefectures in Hubei Province (outside Wuhan, capital of the province). The “one province helps one city”policy has enabled other provincial-level regions to fully support treatment of patients in Hubei Province.
The one-on-one assistance mechanism provides targeted support to prefecturallevel cities in Hubei Province outside Wuhan. For such areas with relatively weak medical resources, the help is timely. From February 9 to 10, a total of 41 charter flights with medical teams composed of nearly 6,000 people landed in Hubei. The assistance campaign is conducive to the efficient delivery of personnel and materials to places where they are most needed and will help China accumulate experience in building a long-term epidemic prevention and relief mechanism.
