  Members of China’s 34th Antarctic expedition land an excavating loader on Inexpressible Island on January 16. Large engineering equipment has been unloaded from the research icebreaker Xue Long onto the island, where the country’s fi fth Antarctic research station will be built.


  The construction of the new base is expected to be completed within five years. It will provide year-round support for researchers conducting observations of the land, ocean, atmosphere, the ice shelf and biology.
