In May 2000, the National Global System of Preventing Infectious Diseases in the United States convened a meeting where participants discussed the prototype of various systems and made recommendations for the development of new monitoring systems. It was agreed that there was a need to monitor health indicators nationwide by combining different sources of data and corroborating each other to develop efficient and innovative health monitoring systems. The author summarizes the contents and results of the symposium, puts forward expectations and suggestions on the new monitoring system
