蔡显良博士作为广东高等书法教育的殿军人物,集学术与艺术于一身,是一位遍涉诸家、旁参九流的学者型书家。他在书法研究方面,学术视阈甚宽,上溯汉简,下逮明清之季的书学无不精研探赜。其曾撰有《从尹湾汉墓简牍中的隶书说起》一文,介绍了汉简的笔画波磔分明、笔势流畅的特点及其字形在隶变中的意义。另外他在古人论书诗研究方面,宏辞博论,成果斐然。从唐宋诸家的诗赋中撷珠,掀示了古人精粹文笔所论及的学艺历程、从艺感悟和所折射的书法思想与文人情愫之流
