In order to investigate the possibility of residual tumor resection after small cell lung cancer (SCLC) chemotherapy, 24 patients with localized small cell lung cancer were strictly selected. The clinical stage before chemotherapy was 3 cases in stage I, 7 cases in stage II, and 14 cases in stage III. Of the 24 patients, 11 had complete clinical remission after chemotherapy and 13 had partial clinical remission. In addition, 14 of 24 patients were treated with preventive brain radiation therapy. In 11 cases of complete remission patients, 6 cases had no tumors found during the operation, while 13 cases had partial remission and 10 cases had tumors found during the operation. Of the 24 patients who underwent thoracotomy, 9 were biopsy only (7 patients had no tumors, 2 patients significantly affected mediastinal lymph nodes without resection), and 15 patients underwent lung resection.
