Intellectuals who are free to think are intrinsically anxious. Due to the very complicated cultural identity of Saul Bellow, anxiety is particularly prominent in the novel of Saul Bellow due to the unbalanced development of culture, belief and wealth. Bellow’s characters, aware of the material world squeezing its spiritual space, naturally emerge from anxiety. Anxiety condenses interrogation of human nature, thinking about life and awe of life, and frees itself through the torment of anxiety, the compromise of reality and the moral perfection of self-perception.
