香港话剧历经近百年的历史发展,既沐浴着欧风美雨,又根植于中国文化的传统之中,同时更是直接面对香港的市民社会特别是知识阶层的审美需求。因而,不仅是由于它的特殊的殖民地身份,而且也是由于其处于东西方文化的缝隙中的特殊的境域,构成了香港话剧的特殊的文化定位,体现出其独特的文化矛盾;并且这种文化矛盾贯穿于香港话剧发展的始终;显示出香港人在民族身份和社会认同和生存状态中的所进行的艰难的选择。如何应对并化解这种文化矛盾,就构成了许多香港剧人所不得不然的艺术追求,并且也由此而呈现出香港话剧的独特的艺术品格和风貌。
After nearly a hundred years of historical development, Hong Kong’s drama has bathed the beauty of the European style and is rooted in the tradition of Chinese culture. It also directly meets the aesthetic needs of Hong Kong’s civil society, especially the intellectual class.
