A wide range of studies have been carried out on the nitration of substituted aromatics with N2 O4 O3 and found that the isomer distribution of the product is quite different from the isomer distribution of the traditional mixed acid nitration products and the reasons for this difference are analyzed. The analysis shows that ortho-position assistance of the P orbital on the substituent is the main factor, which is supported by the calculation of the electron density distribution and the experimental results
