从国际大都市上海驱车往西,仅半个小时,就来到江苏省吴江市,一座历史悠久的文化古城,也是一座开放、文明的现代化新兴水乡城市。 早在新石器中晚期,(距今约6000年),先民们就在吴江这块土地上从事渔猎耕织。到后梁(?)平三年,即公元909年,吴江建县,距今已有千余年的历史。1992年撤县设市。吴江人文荟萃,英才辈出。著名爱国者、杰出诗人柳亚子和著名社会学家费孝通等部是吴江人。吴江籍的中科院和工程院院士有8位。 上世纪末期,紧邻上海的吴江市得改革开放风气之先,经济建设和社会事业迅猛发展。2003年,全市国内生产总值281亿元,财政收入32.58亿元。在2002年度“全国县域经济基本竞争力”和“中国最发达100名县(市、区)”评
