以母题研究法,对照《民间文学母题索引》确定汉王祖王神话的诸多母题,着重对“神惩罚人类”、“世界性的灾难”和“文化英雄建立习俗”等母题的文化内涵进行分析。汉王与祖王是麽经中除布洛陀之外较为重要的神祇。麽经在确立神祇的过程中,着重借助了壮族的灾难记忆文化和原始崇拜文化,使汉王祖王既具有远古神祇的性质,又具有现实的非凡神力,成了麽教的职能神。汉王与祖王还是具有民族文化英雄特质的神祇。
