在南非洲的巴贝姆巴族中,至今依然保持着许多优秀的生活礼仪和处世方式。譬如当族里的某个人因为行为有失检点而犯了错误的时候,族长便会让犯错的人站在村落的中央,公开亮相,以示惩戒。但最值得称道的是:每当这种时候,整个部落的人都会不约而同地放下手中的工作,从四面八方赶来,将这个犯错的人团团围住,用赞美来“理疗”他的心灵,修正他的错误,引导他以此为戒,总结教训,重新做人。围上来的人们,会自动分出长幼,然后从最年长的人开始发言,依次告诉这个犯错的人,他今生曾经为整个部落做过哪些善事,哪些好事。每个族人都必须将犯错人的优点和善行,用真诚的语调叙述上一遍。叙述时既不能够夸大事实,也不允许出言不逊。对前面已经有人提及的优点和善行,后面的人不能再重复叙说。总之,每个人在叙说时,都要有新的发现,新的褒扬。整个“赞美”的仪式,要持续到所有的族人都将正面的评语说完为止。“赞美”的仪式结束以后,紧接着便要举行一场盛大的庆典。庆典在老族长的主持下进行,部族中的男女老少都要参加。人们要载歌载舞,用一种隆重而热烈的礼仪,来庆贺犯错的人脱胎换骨,改过自新,重新开始一种全新的生活。
In the Babemba people in South Africa, many excellent living etiquettes and ways of life are still maintained. For example, when someone in a tribe has made a mistake because of a point of misconduct, the chief would make the wrong person stand in the middle of the village and make public appearances to show punishment. But what is most commendable is this: Whenever this happens, the entire tribal people will put their hands off their work, come from all directions, surround the wrong person, and “treat” his soul with praise. His mistakes led him to use this as a warning, summed up his lessons, and renewed his life. The people around us will automatically divide their children, and then begin speaking from the oldest person and tell the wrong person in turn what kind of good things he has done for the entire tribe and what good things he has done in this life. Every tribe needs to describe the merits and good deeds of the wrongdoer in a sincere tone. The narrative can neither exaggerate the facts nor allow insulting. Regarding the merits and good deeds that have already been mentioned before, the following people cannot repeat the narrative. In short, everyone must have new discoveries and new praises when they speak. The entire “praise” ceremony will continue until all ethnic groups have finished their positive reviews. After the “praise” ceremony is over, it will be followed by a grand celebration. The celebrations were conducted under the auspices of the old patriarchs, and all men, women and children of the tribes participated. People should sing and dance, and use a solemn and warm ceremony to celebrate the mistakes of people who are reborn, reinvent themselves and start a new life.
