1912年兴化美以美会传教士蒲鲁士有感于兴化地区地狭人穷,利用教会网络组织发起了移民砂捞越诗巫、建立“兴化芭”的活动。本文先叙述了教会移民的社会背景,进而考察了兴化美以美会策划和组织移民砂捞越的缘起和经过,最后对砂捞越“兴化芭”建立时期的移民特点进行总结和归纳,指出砂捞越“兴化芭”的建立,体现了蒲氏“教养兼治”的宗教理念,同时诗巫“兴化芭”的建立,在一定程度上也极大地改变了福建侨乡和东南亚华人的空间分布。
