丘成桐先生是著名数学家,长于微分几何、拓扑学、代数几何领域,成就显著,1982年获数学界的最高奖——菲尔兹奖(相当于数学界的诺贝尔奖——诺贝尔先生对数学家有偏见,未设诺贝尔数学奖)。在1983年华沙举行的国际数学大会颁奖仪式上,一位数学界名人对丘先生评价道:“他的工作涵盖了整个微分几何的全部,展现了强有力的技巧、深度与广度,也展现了他的勇气与视野。”
