The breakdown of the Earth’s ozone layer has become a worldwide concern. But how do scientists get the altitude data they need to find a solution to the problem? Such an unmanned powered glider may be the answer to this problem. Over the vast frozen zone of Antarctica, over 24,000 meters, an aircraft will cruise through the atmosphere with its long, tapered wing. The unmanned powered glider, called Parthise, is expected to fly into higher altitudes than current turboprops by mid-1994 to find out what’s wrong with the Earth’s stratospheric ozone layer. It will be included in the search for ozone-depleting chemicals in thin cold air over Antarctica
