余光中是20世纪中国诗文双璧的大作家,手握五色之笔:用象征高贵的紫色笔写诗;用金色笔写散文,“焕发了白话文的生命”,其风格号称“余体”;用黑色笔写评论,褒贬力求公正无私,有如黑面包公判案;用红色笔编辑文学作品,圈点修饰,一丝不苟,有时如同批阅学生作业;用具有信实之意色彩象征的蓝色笔治翻译,口诛笔伐“翻译体中文”的弊端,做清通优美中文的“守护天使”。五色之中,金紫最为辉煌。他上承中国文学传统,旁采西洋艺术,于新诗、散文的贡献,有如杜甫之确立律诗、韩潮苏海的集成与开拓。安徽教育出版社出版余氏作品选集五卷,一为诗集,二为散文集,三为文学评论集,四为语言及翻译论集,五为译品集,最能全面反映余氏的文学成就。五彩笔挥洒结晶为五卷书,这是余氏的五经,有五色的璀璨、五音的铿锵、五香的浓郁、五金的坚固、五车的渊博,是这位诗宗文豪迄今为止最佳的选集
