This article seeks to detail the issues surrounding the radiation environment encountered by the University of Rome in the design of small satellites. In this paper, the main characteristics of small satellites and the characteristics of the environment were introduced in detail, but the analysis focused on the general design steps applicable to this type of satellites. Analysis of shielding sites is under way, and methods to define key shielding sites are both simple and quantitative. The article assesses the risks associated with using specialized devices to prevent total ionizing dose radiation and single-particle flipping. This article also looks at the effect of focusing on the most radiation-sensitive devices, with the ultimate goal of reducing the incidence of single-particle inversion (SEE).
