Since the 1970s, nitrogen and phosphorus pollution have caused widespread concern in various countries of the world. At present, Europe and the United States have formulated very strict nitrogen and phosphorus emission standards. The new WWTPs must consider the requirements for denitrification and dephosphorization, and at the same time, reconstruct the existing WWTPs to achieve the effects of denitrification and phosphorus removal. The vast majority of existing urban sewage treatment plants in our country do not have the ability to remove nitrogen and phosphorus. With the increasingly serious pollution of nitrogen and phosphorus, it is necessary to conduct timely research in this respect. To this end, from 1993 onwards, Tongji University, Shanghai Municipal Engineering Design and Research Institute, Shanghai Songjiang Wastewater Treatment Plant tripartite common research team composed of the project, after nearly three years of systematic research work, from the laboratory mechanism
