The Chinese culture is classified as high-context culture and the English culture low- context. In classical Chinese, most of the information is either in the physical context or internalized in the person. But mass of the information in English is vested in the explicit code.Chinese ancient books, which are usually filled with cultural factors, need to be explicit to foreign readers who are not familiar with Chinese culture.Besides, the two languages differ in many regards. Therefore, explicitation should be adopted in the translation process in order to meet the needs of the readers, the language and the function of the text.On the basis of analysis of two translation versions of Cai Gen Tan,it is found that three types of explicitation within the translation texts are commonly adopted, which are lexical explicitation, subjects explicitation and that of cohesion and coherence.
